Lewis Capaldi Earns His Fifth No. 1 In The U.K.—And Third In A Year—With New Smash ‘Wish You The Best’

Lewis Capaldi is enjoying another massive win, as his latest release has gone right to No. 1 in the U.K., proving once again that he really is one of the most successful artists of his generation.

The Scottish singer-songwriter’s just-released ballad “Wish You The Best” debuts at No. 1 this week on the U.K. songs ranking. The tune marks his fifth trip to the summit on the most important singles chart in his home nation. Capaldi has previously taken the top spot with “Someone You Loved,” “Before You Go,” “Forget Me,” and “Pointless,” making him one of the biggest hitmakers of the moment.

Perhaps even more impressively, “Wish You The Best” is Capaldi’s third No. 1 in just the past year.

The success of “Wish You The Best” also marks Capaldi’s eighth top 10 single in the U.K., an especially notable sum considering he hasn’t even released his second full-length yet.

The instant commercial success of “Wish You The Best” grabs the throne from last week’s chart-topper, “Miracle” by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, which has been forced to take a step down to second place.

Capaldi’s latest track is yet another soulful and heart-wrenching ballad, which is what millions have come to expect from the superstar. “Wish You The Best” is taken from his forthcoming second album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, which itself is expected to be released on May 19.

According to the Official Charts Company, Capaldi has now tied with a slew of hitmakers who have also had five No. 1 singles on the U.K. chart, including All Saints, Bee Gees, Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Bruno Mars, Cheryl, David Bowie, Dizzee Rascal, Flo Rida, JLS, Katy Perry, Ne-Yo, The Police, and will.i.am (apart from his work with the Black Eyed Peas, who are mentioned separately).
