Robert Lewandowski wishes to join FC Barcelona, who have an offer ready for the striker according to reports.
The reigning two-time FIFA The Best winner is a free man in June 2023, which perhaps forces his current club Bayern Munich to offload him before next season so as not to lose their second all-time top scorer on a free transfer.
According to Sport, Barca will offer the Poland international a four-year contract until 2026 as they believe that the model professional can still perform at the top level despite already being aged 33.
Barca don’t think that reaching an agreement with the Ballon d’Or hopeful will be a problem either given president Joan Laporta’s strong relationship with the player’s agent Pini Zahivi – who has represented Lewandowski since 2018 when he left the man that took him to German football, Cezary Kucharski, in 2010.
Priced out of making a reasonable approach for Dortmund’s lead man Erling Haaland, Barca can still land a big star in Lewandowski to fill the void left by Lionel Messi when the Argentine fled to Paris Saint Germain as a free agent in 2021.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has impressed since joining from Arsenal in the recent winter transfer window, but the pull of ‘Lewa’ is far more attractive for Barca’s global image and its sponsors, Sport say.
The same paper reports simultaneously that Lewa wants to leave Bayern and join Barca after eight seasons with them in the Bundesliga which look likely to yield consecutive top flight titles.
Fleeing Lech Poznan at the start of the last decade, Lewandowski has been on German soil for 12 years and therefore reportedly longs for a change of scenery.
Barca can offer that, as well as the international recognition the player allegedly feels has eluded him in his current adopted homeland. By donning Blaugrana now, Lewandowski can lead what will probably be the last sporting project of his career in the elite while helping to resurrect a fallen giant under the commands of one of the world’s hottest young coaches in Xavi Hernandez.
Netting 339 goals in 366 games, it is easy to see why Bayern wish to hold on to one of his generation’s greatest marksmen.
