Ledger Regains Discord Control After Brief Hack Targeting Users

Hardware wallet maker Ledger has restored control of its Discord server after a brief compromise on Sunday, when a hacker gained access through a moderator’s account.

The attacker used the breach to promote a scam that asked users to enter their recovery phrases on a fake third-party website. Some users attempting to warn others were banned or muted during the incident.

According to Ledger’s Quintin Boatwright, the team swiftly responded by removing the compromised account, deleting the malicious bot, and reporting the phishing website. Server permissions were also reviewed and tightened to prevent future breaches.

The event follows another recent scam targeting Ledger customers through fraudulent physical letters, which directed recipients to similarly dangerous websites. These attacks may stem from a 2020 data breach in which customer information was leaked.
