Kyle Busch Sells Craftsman Truck Series Team To Spire Motorsports

Kyle Busch’s championship-winning Craftsman Truck Series operation will have an ownership change starting in 2024. Busch announced on Wednesday that Kyle Busch Motorsports is being sold to Spire Motorsports, a multi-car Nascar Cup Series operation that also has a part-time Truck Series team.

Recently, Spire Motorsports announced it is acquiring a charter from Live Fast Motorsports to field a third car in 2024 for Zane Smith as part of a deal with Trackhouse Racing. Now, the expanding team will move into the 77,000-square-foot shop Busch’s team has called home.

“It will be hard to walk away from the amazing facility we built,” Busch said in a statement. “I’ll miss walking the shop floor talking with the everyone, hosting our fan days in the lobby and spending countless hours there ensuring it’s success. However, I know at this point in my life and in my career that this is the correct decision.”

Busch started his Truck Series operation in 2010, when he was 25 years old. The team has won 100 races — the winningest team in Truck Series history — with Busch winning 48 races with his own team. Among the team’s highlights are championships with Erik Jones in 2015 and Christopher Bell in 2017, two drivers who eventually competed alongside Busch with Joe Gibbs Racing at the Cup level.

Kyle Busch Motorsports competed under the Toyota banner until last year, and they had a strong relationship with Toyota Racing Development for Busch to mentor the manufacturer’s drivers. However, in 2023, with Busch switching Cup teams to Richard Childress Racing, part of his deal was to swap Truck Series manufacturers to Chevrolet.

“When we started the Truck Series team back in 2010, I never imagined that we would be able to win 100 races with 18 different drivers and that one day I’d be racing in the Cup Series alongside so many drivers I once mentored at KBM,” Busch said. “It took countless hours by so many amazing people to make KBM the winningest team in Truck Series history. Thank you to my family, our employees, our amazing sponsors and both Chevy and Toyota for all of their dedication and hard work over the years.”

For Spire Motorsports, owned by Jeff Dickerson and T.J. Puchyr, the move will enhance the organization’s overall operation.

“Spire Motorsports has tremendous respect for Kyle and Samantha Busch, their staff and everything they’ve built and accomplished at KBM over the years,” Spire Motorsports said in a statement. “They created a record-setting, championship-winning race team. Those accomplishments can’t be overstated.”

And Busch believes the Spire ownership group will see the success he created.

Busch concluded, “I’m confident that our assets and employees are in good hands moving forward. I don’t see the winning ways changing at all. I’ve known the Spire guys for a long time and their recent investments in Nascar show their commitment to success.”

Spire launched a part-time Truck Series team in 2022 and has two wins with Hendrick Motorsports drivers William Byron and Kyle Larson. In additiona to fielding entries for HMS’ Cup drivers, the team has created opportunities for development drivers like Derek Kraus, Carson Kvapil, Layne Riggs and more.
