‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Returning To Theaters, Here’s The Release Date

Netflix may be opposed to theatrical releases 98% of the time, but the power of KPop Demon Hunters knows no bounds. After a one-weekend run of a sing-along version of the movie back in August, which won the box office with $18 million in receipts, it’s now turning into a two-weekend run.

Putting the “demon” in KPop Demon Hunters, Netflix has announced that the sing-a-long version of the film is returning Halloween weekend, with an October 31 release date, running through November 2. It is entirely possible it wins that weekend again, as looking at the release calendar around that time, nothing jumps out at something that would definitely be more popular.

Checking the charts right now and yup, KPop Demon Hunters is still in the top 3 on Netflix, almost four months since its release. The tie to Halloween is also relevant, given that you know this movie is going to spawn a hundred thousand Halloween costumes at least, either homemade or the Netflix-official versions, which just came out. Expect to see those all over your Instagram whether it’s your friends’ kids or college frat parties.

The latest development with KPop Demon Hunters is that its creators have shot down the idea of a live-action remake of the film, something that was previously being considered, according to reports. Here’s Maggie Kang speaking to the BBC this week:

“There’s so many elements of the tone and the comedy that are so suited for animation,” Kang said. “It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So totally it wouldn’t work for me.”

The main thing going on right now is negotiations for a sequel, but nothing official has been announced yet, other than this new launch of the sing-along event for Halloween. There’s also this strange news item about a KPop Demon Hunters short film being rated for release, and I wonder if that’s just going to be a surprise drop from Netflix one of these days. Maybe for Halloween?

KPop Demon Hunters are also heading up Fortnite’s Fortnitemare’s Halloween event, releasing rushed-to-production skins right before it happened, and having their own demon-hunting game mode. Their world takeover has now extended to an entire third of 2025, and Halloween is going to be another big moment for the movie. I have no idea when this momentum is going to let up at this point.
