Five Indian movies, including the Bollywood movies Maa and Tehran have made it to the latest weekly list of most-watched non-English films on Netflix for the week ending August 31. It is the second consecutive week on the list for Maa and Maareesan. While Maa climbed one spot to rank at fourth, Maareesan slipped one slot down to make it as seventh most-watched non-English film worldwide. The Hindi film Metro..In Dino and the Telugu film Kingdom are the other two.
Maa, Maareesan on Netflix global top 10 for two consecutive weeks
Kajol’s Maa and Fahadh Faasil’s Maareesan both made their debut on Netflix on August 22, nearly two months after their theatrical release. Headlined by John Abraham, Tehran had a direct to digital release on August 14 on ZEE5 before it made its way to Netflix on August 26. Anurag Basu’s Metro In Dino had its digital premiere on August 29, almost eight weeks after its theatrical release early July.

Directed by Chhorii fame filmmaker Vishal Furia, Maa recorded 3.7 million views and 8.7 million watch hours in the second week of its digital premiere on Netflix. Maa is the fourth most-watched non-English film worldwide on Netflix. It is also the most watched film in four countries including Mauritius, Bangladesh, Maldives and Pakistan. The horror-thriller also ranked among the top ten films in 20 countries including Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, India, Trinidad and Tobago and Dominican Republic.
Maa was the fifth most-watched non-English film worldwide in its debut week when it registered 1.7 million views and 3.8 million watch-hours in just three days on Netflix. It was also the most-watched film in Bangladesh for the week ending August 24. Apart from Kajol, Maa features Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sen Gupta, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya. Revolves around a mother and daughter who are struggling to fight and defeat supernatural and social evils. Devgn’s Shaitaan (2024) was a surprise box office hit and emerged as one of the top scorers that year. Maa did not yield similar box office results for the producers. Shaitaan features Devgn and R Madhavan in lead roles and was a remake of the Gujarati film Vash.

Maareesan registered 2.6 million views and 6.6 million watch hours in its second week on Netflix. Headlined by Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, the Tamil film slid one position down to rank as seventh most-watched non-English film worldwide on the platform in the week ending August 31. It was the most-watched film in Sri Lanka and also ranked among top ten most-watched films in 12 countries including India, Bahrain, Singapore and Kuwait, among others.
Last week, Maareesan ranked at sixth on the list and was the most-watched film in India and Sri Lanka. The film is directed by Sudheesh Sankar and also stars Renuka, Sithara, and Saravana Subbiah.
Tehran debuts on Netflix top 10

Headlined by John Abraham, Tehran began streaming on Netflix on August 26, nearly two weeks after it had the direct-to-digital release on ZEE5. The film has registered 2.2 million views and 4.2 million watch-hours in four days on the platform to become the eighth most-watched film worldwide. It also ranked among the top ten films in 13 countries across the globe.
Produced by Maddock Films, Tehran was waiting to be released for a long time. Eventually, it had a digital release on ZEE5 last month and began streaming on Netflix just weeks later. On ZEE5, Tehran clocked in more than a 100 million views and became the most-watched content on the platform for the year 2025. The film is directed by Arun Gopalan and traces the story of a few Indians caught amid the tense relations between Israel and Iran. Apart from Abraham, the film features Neeru Bajwa, Manushi Chhillar, and Madhurima Tuli.
Metro In Dino debuts on Netflix top 10

Exploring the new age fast life and the consequences of such a lifestyle on human relationships, Anurag Basu’s latest Metro film – Metro In Dino – is the tenth most-watched non-English film on Netflix for the week ending August 31. The romantic drama recorded 1.2 million views and 3.2 million watch-hours on Netflix in three days since its digital premiere on Netflix. It also ranked among the top ten most-watched films in five countries across the globe, including India, Mauritius, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Maldives.
Metro… In Dino stars Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Ali Fazal, Neena Gupta, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film first released in theatres on July 4 but received mixed response from the critics as well as at the box office. It is a spiritual sequel to Basu’s 2007 romantic drama, Life In A Metro, which was also an anthology focusing on human relationships amid city life.
Kingdom: Samrajya debuts on Netflix global top 10
The Telugu film Kingdom: Samrajya landed online on August 29 and garnered 2.9 million views and 7.9 million watch-hours in just three days on Netflix. Headlined by Indian star Vijay Deverakonda, the film ranks at the sixth position among most-watched non-English films across the globe this week. It ranked among top ten most-watched films in 13 countries across the globe.
Kingdom is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri who has also written it. Vijay Deverakonda plays the lead role in the film which also features Satyadev, Baburaj, Manish Chaudhary, Bhagyashri Borse, and Bhoomi Shetty. It had a theatrical release on July 31 and witnessed an average box office run.
