Topline
Kim Kardashian and some of her famous family members spoke out against anti-Semitism on social media Monday, as her ex-husband Kanye West draws condemnation for his remarks targeting the Jewish community—though Kardashian didn’t criticize her ex-husband by name.
Key Facts
Kardashian, who was married to West from 2014 to 2021, tweeted and posted on Instagram that “hate speech is never OK or excusable” and said, “I stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end.”
Earlier on Monday, Kim’s sister Khloé Kardashian, mom Kris Jenner and half-sisters Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner shared a post on Instagram that said “I support my Jewish friends and the Jewish people.”
The post shared by the Kardashian-Jenner clan was created by Jessica Seinfeld, wife of comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who is campaigning for signatures on a petition promoting the boycott of brand Adidas until it ends its partnership with West.
None of the posts from the famous family directly mentioned West or his remarks.
The posts from the Kardashian-Jenners are particularly notable as Kim’s older sister Kourtney Kardashian’s former partner, Scott Disick, and their three children, Mason, Penelope and Reign, are Jewish.
Key Background
Calls intensified over the weekend for Adidas to drop West, who has made a plethora of anti-Semitic and inflammatory comments over the last few weeks, including saying he would go “death con 3 on Jewish people” and citing tropes about the “Jewish media.” A small group of anti-Semitic protestors in Los Angeles were spotted celebrating his comments on Saturday, holding signs reading “Kanye is right about the Jews” and performing Nazi salutes over a 405 Freeway overpass. Adidas, which has distributed West’s Yeezy line since 2013, has not commented on his hate speech, but after West displayed “White Lives Matter” shirts at a recent fashion show, the brand said it was putting its relationship with West under review. Balenciaga said Friday it had severed ties with West and has no future plans to work with him. The heads of talent management firms United Talent Agency and Endeavor have also called for a boycott of West.
Forbes Valuations
West, who legally changed his name to Ye, is estimated by Forbes to be worth $2 billion, a number that could drop significantly if he were to lose his Adidas partnership. Forbes estimates that Kim Kardashian is worth $1.8 billion, and Kylie Jenner was worth $600 million in June.
