Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” hits 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, holding on longer than his … More
Kendrick Lamar and SZA are once again in charge of the Hot 100. The longtime friends and frequent collaborators have made a habit of dominating Billboard’s most competitive ranking, and their latest joint effort, “Luther,” has turned into a proper smash.
The track has now led the tally for 10 frames, becoming a relatively rare double-digit-week winner and easily the longest-running leader of either artist’s career. With one more turn at the top, it doesn’t just stand alone in Lamar’s discography. “Luther” now marks a particularly special smash in Lamar’s catalog.
Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s 10 Weeks at No. 1
Now that it has spent 10 weeks atop the Hot 100, “Luther” outpaces the combined total of all his previous chart-toppers on the Hot 100 . Before “Luther” arrived, two of Lamar’s tracks — “Like That,” which is fronted by Future and Metro Boomin and his own Drake diss track “Not Like Us” — were tied as his top-performing No. 1s, each with three frames in charge of the tally.
His other three winners – “Bad Blood” with Taylor Swift, “Humble” and “Squabble Up” – all lived at the summit for just one frame each. Altogether, those five cuts spent nine weeks at No. 1, which is just one less than “Luther” has managed on its own – and it’s likely not done ruling yet.
SZA’s First Multi-Week Leader
SZA passed this moment that Lamar is only just now reaching some time ago. She has collected a trio of Hot 100 champions: “Kill Bill,” “Slime You Out” with Drake, and “Luther.” Her earlier chart-toppers only ruled for a single week apiece, so once “Luther” hit its third stay in the penthouse, it became not just her longest-running leader, but one that had racked up more stays in the penthouse than all her others combined.
“Luther” is A Cross-Genre Smash
This frame, “Luther” ranks at No. 1 on nine Billboard charts. While it largely dominates genre-specific rankings focused on rap and hip-hop, it also commands both the Hot 100 and Radio Songs tallies. At the same time, it lives inside the top 10 on another half-dozen rosters, and it’s already spent time at No. 1 on many of them.
