Kendrick Lamar’s “Luther” becomes his longest-running No. 1 on the Rap Airplay chart, outlasting … More
In many ways, “Not Like Us” will likely be remembered as Kendrick Lamar’s career high point. The tune propelled the rapper into the stratosphere, which is saying a lot, considering that by the time the Drake diss track was released, he was already one of the most respected names in hip-hop, as well as one of the most awarded and commercially successful.
“Not Like Us,” which won both Record and Song of the Year at the Grammys, quickly emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2024 and certainly one of Lamar’s most memorable. After that cut reset a number of historic records, one of the superstar’s follow-up singles has somehow become even bigger, something that seemed unlikely during the heyday of “Not Like Us.”
“Luther” Is Steady at No. 1
“Luther” continues to rule the Rap Airplay chart, keeping Cardi B’s “Outside” from claiming another No. 1. That tune swaps spots with Lamar’s “Peekaboo” featuring AZChike, which dips to fourth place. “Luther,” which also credits Lamar’s friend SZA, becomes as the rapper’s most successful No. 1 ever on the Rap Airplay ranking as it leads once more.
“Luther” Rules for a Milestone 18 Weeks
As of this frame, “Luther” has led the Rap Airplay chart for 18 weeks. Previously, the tune was matched with “Not Like Us,” which managed 17 frames at the summit, starting in June 2024. Now, his collaboration has become the longest-running champion in his discography on the most important rap radio list published by Billboard.
Kendrick Lamar Dominates the Top 10
Amazingly, as “Luther” runs the show, Lamar occupies multiple spaces near the top of the Rap Airplay chart this frame. He appears inside the top 10 with “Luther,” “Peekaboo,” and “TV Off,” a collaboration with Lefty, Gunplay. “Squabble Up,” another track from his recent album GNX, drops just outside the region, slipping from No. 6 to No. 11, as last week he owned 40% of the entire top 10.
“Luther” Rules More Than One Tally
“Luther” reigns beyond the Rap Airplay ranking this frame. The track also returns to the top spot on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts. Recently, Drake’s new single “What Did I Miss?” opened in first place, but it has already started to slip.
