Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” scores a tenth week atop the Hot 100, becoming the longest-running … More
Kendrick Lamar and SZA control the Hot 100 once more this week with “Luther,” which has turned out to be a career-defining success for both artists. That’s quite the tall order for two musicians who have already collected numerous smashes and are regarded as among the most successful of their generation.
“Luther” leads the list of the most consumed songs in America for a tenth frame. As it reaches that milestone, it breaks out of a tie with another hugely popular collaboration and makes history on the charts.
Kendrick Lamar and SZA Set a New Billboard Record
Billboard reports that “Luther” is now the first song credited solely to one man and one woman to lead the Hot 100 for double-digit weeks. When it was steady with nine frames atop the Hot 100, it matched “Endless Love” by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie for that special place in chart history.
There have been several other 10-week (or longer) rulers on the Hot 100 that come close to this feat, but none that fit the parameters now claimed by Lamar and SZA.
The history is very specific, which allows Lamar and SZA to pull ahead of Ross and Richie. For example, “I’ll Be Missing You” by the musician then known as Puff Daddy and Faith Evans ruled for 11 frames, though it also credited the band 112. Acts like the Black Eyed Peas, which feature both men and women, have dominated for even longer — but that doesn’t fit squarely into this description.
“Luther” Is the Longest-Running No. 1 for Both Artists
“Luther” is easily the longest-running No. 1 for both Lamar and SZA. While she has only managed two other one-week champions in the past, Lamar has seen a pair of tracks control the tally for a trio of frames. Both “Like That,” with Future and Metro Boomin, and his own “Not Like Us” topped the tally for three periods each and, for a while, were tied as his longest-running rulers.
“Luther” could very well continue to dominate the Hot 100 for at least another week — if not several more in a row. It is performing well when it comes to all important metrics that feed into where a title lands on the tally, and there isn’t much in the way of competition at the moment that might replace it – though names like Alex Warren and Morgan Wallen may soon have a shot at doing so.
“Luther” Rules Nine Billboard Charts This Week
Lamar and SZA control nine Billboard charts this week with “Luther.” The song also appears inside the top 10 on half a dozen other rankings, and it is quickly turning out to be perhaps the biggest hit of 2025 — at least in the first half of the year.
