Katie Taylor Vs. Amanda Serrano III: Odds, Records, Prediction

Their first two boxing matches produced some of the most eye-catching bouts that two women have ever produced. Now, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano are returning to the ring to finish their trilogy. Taylor will try to prove she’s still one of the best ever, and Serrano will try to grab the victory that she believes has unfairly eluded her. Here’s everything you need to know about the third version of Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano, including the odds, their records and a prediction on who will win.

Taylor faced Serrano for the first time in 2022, and though many observers believed Serrano deserved the decision, especially after badly hurting Taylor midway through, Taylor squeaked out the split decision to become the undisputed lightweight champion. More than two years later, the two met again, and again, the duo provided an all-time action fight with Taylor winning 95-94 on all three scorecards. Some believe Serrano should have been awarded that decision as well.

Sure, Serrano could take solace in the fighters’ seven-figure paydays, but she still can’t get over the idea that she’s 0-2 against her 135-pound rival when she could very easily be 2-0.

“This trilogy is granted because I feel like I won [the second] fight,” Serrano said. “Clearly. I think the world, the millions of people who were watching on Netflix, felt like I won this fight. Nonetheless, Katie Taylor is a great champion, and I can’t wait to share the ring with her . . . This is called unfinished business for a reason. Come July 11th, I will finish that business and become victorious and then Katie can do what she wants to do. “

Taylor naturally disagrees with Serrano’s assessment.

“She’s got her own opinions about the fight as well, but she has to respect the decisions,” Taylor said. “If you look at those fights, you can clearly see that I won those two fights. It’s insane. It’s ridiculous, really. It’s really, really insane that she thinks she won those fights.”

Serrano is also annoyed that the third bout won’t feature 12 three-minute rounds, like she wants. She said she and Taylor shook hands on it and agreed. Serrano has long advocated for three-minute rounds for female fights, and she’s participated in a few of those matches herself. But in Friday’s fight, it’ll be 12 two-minute rounds instead, the standard of most women’s boxing matches.

“I am 2-0 here, and I’m in the driver’s seat,” Taylor said. “That’s only right at the end of the day. Amanda needs this fight a lot more than I do. I have a long history of big fights against big names, and a line of people queued up to fight me for the payday. You need this fight a lot more than I do, Amanda. You know that? At the end of the day, I think the point of [you fighting]

three-minute rounds was to prove to people that you get more knockouts. How many knockouts did you get in your 12 three-minute rounds? Zero.”

Katie Taylor Vs. Amanda Serrano III odds

Although she lost both previous fights, Serrano is still the -200 betting favorite (bet $200 to win $100), while Taylor is the +160 underdog (win $160 on a $100 wager). When the fight was first announced, Serrano was -150, so since then, it appears more of the money has come in on Serrano. For what it’s worth, Serrano was also the betting favorite heading into the first two fights. If you like Serrano, it wouldn’t be outlandish to take her to win by stoppage at +550.

If you were looking for a fun parlay for this weekend’s action of boxing (and this is only for entertainment purposes), I might take Serrano to beat Taylor at -200, Edgar Berlanga to beat Hamzah Sheeraz at +115 and Shakur Stevenson to beat William Zepeda by decision at -200. If all of those hit, you’d win $384 on a $100 wager.

Katie Taylor Vs. Amanda Serrano III records

While her two previous victories against Serrano represent the best wins of her career, Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) has put together a first-ballot Hall of Fame resume by beating Chantelle Cameron, Delfine Persoon twice, Natasha Jonas and Jessica McCaskill. Her only loss came in her first meeting vs. Cameron.

At 47-3-1 (31 KOs), Serrano will also be a first-ballot Hall of Famer with victories against Heather Hardy twice and Yamileth Mercado. A win vs. Taylor won’t make or break her status as one of the greatest fighters of this generation, but it would still be awfully sweet to her.

Katie Taylor Vs. Amanda Serrano III prediction

Serrano has come so close to beating Taylor in both of her fights (it reminds me a little of the first two Canelo Alvarez-Gennadiy Golovkin battles when I thought Golovkin could have been awarded either or both). This time, Serrano is finally going to break through. Taylor, at 39, is getting older, and she’s going to slow down just enough for Serrano to surpass her and win by close decision, somewhere in the 115-113 neighborhood.
