The unholy trinity of Kanye “Ye” West, white nationalist Nick Fuentes, and alt-right political commentator and self-described “ex-gay” Milo Yiannopoulos appeared together on the Timcast IRL podcast on Monday night, hosted by YouTuber Tim Pool.
From the outset, the conversation was clearly intended to break the internet, coming in the wake of former President Donald Trump’s tumultuous meeting with West and Fuentes, which resulted in a fiery clash of egos and sparked widespread condemnation from all directions, as Fuentes is an open white nationalist and Holocaust denier.
The three are not merely controversial media personalities, but purveyors of bigotry; Fuentes, in particular, is an anti-Semite who doesn’t cloak his hateful rhetoric in evasive language. Fuentes is also a fervent misogynist who believes women should not have the right to vote, and claims to be a virgin; he once stated that “having sex with women is gay.”
West has made several anti-Semitic statements on social media and during interviews, and by allying with Fuentes, appears to be doubling down.
Pool, a political commentator with a right-wing audience, attempted to frame himself as something of a centrist willing to give the ghastly trio the benefit of the doubt.
But it didn’t take long for West, who is attempting to run for president in 2024, to begin spewing anti-Semitic rhetoric. Thankfully, blatant anti-Semitism proved to be the hard line that Pool would not cross.
In a rambling rant, West compared himself to Martin Luther King, stating:
“I thought I was more Malcolm X but I found out I’m more MLK. As I’m getting hosed down every day by the press and financially, I’m just standing there.”
Pool seemed to agree with West, saying that “they have been extremely unfair.” West responded by asking what Pool meant by “they,” and speculated that they couldn’t say it on camera. Pool then clarified that he was referring to the “corporate press,” which prompted an anti-Semitic outburst from Fuentes, who placed an uncomfortable emphasis on the word, “they.”
Fuentes was then interrupted by West who, at that point, seemed to notice that Pool was not humoring their anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. As Pool attempted to explain his own perspective, West stood up and stormed out, followed by Fuentes and Yiannopoulos.
The trio did not return to the podcast. Pool and his team continued to talk long after West had stormed out; Pool later described West’s antics as “woke.”
Twitter soon lit up with gossip, as commentators discussed the pathetic spectacle.
It seems that most of the provocateurs and culture warriors of the alt-right have either devolved into anti-Semites, or are willing to engage anti-Semites in dialogue for the sake of attention.
But as West proved, a good faith discussion with bigots isn’t just ill-advised – it’s impossible.
