When Zach Shallcross got down on one knee and proposed to his now-fiancée Kaity Biggar on “The Bachelor” finale, he did so by presenting her with platinum ring from couture jeweler Neil Lane that boasts a large oval diamond surrounded by 150 smaller diamonds.
It’s so dazzling that Biggar told the reality TV show’s host, Jesse Palmer, that, “It looks like a disco ball!”
But as she’s since explained, it was never her goal to wear a disco ball on her ring finger.
During an interview on the Wednesday, March 29 episode of the “Chicks in the Office” podcast, Biggar explained she never had the chance to tell Shallcross about her engagement ring preferences.
“Unfortunately, we never had that conversation,” she said. But she did speak to someone about it. “I remember a producer asking me what kind of ring I wanted, and my ideal ring—and I’ve told Zach this—would be a gold band with an emerald-cut on top.”
In short, nothing like the one Shallcross picked out on the show with the help of Palmer. But in his defense, he wasn’t presented with an option that looked anything like that.
The reason for that seems to have something to do with the previous season of “The Bachelorette.”
“I guess Tino gave that to Rachel last season,” Biggar said.
And she’s right. When Tino Franco proposed to leading lady Rachel Recchia on Season 19 of the series, he did so with a ring that was an exact match of Biggar’s ideal ring. (A ring that Recchia later gave back to Franco after finding out he cheated on her.)
Biggar added of the ring she was given, “Either way, like I said, so grateful. It is a gorgeous ring.”
Or, as Shallcross joked after her confession, “It’s the second-best ring there ever was, and she loves it.”
When Shallcross and Palmer perused the selection of rings on “The Bachelor” finale, the groom-to-be was immediately drawn to the ring he eventually gave Biggar.
“Wow! This is beautiful,” he said as he removed it from its box.
He recalled that moment during their chat with “Chicks in the Office.”
“I thought it was going to be stressful,” he said “I thought, ‘Oh, my God! This is the moment. I can’t f—k this up. That’s the last thing I want to do.’ And then I was presented with the rings, and almost immediately, I saw that ring and thought that it screams Kaity, without a doubt. I’m picturing it on her finger. It can’t go wrong.”
But he soon had a feeling it went a little wrong, and not just because it’s not an emerald-cut diamond on a gold band.
“It’s a little big,” he noted of her opinion on the rock. “We’ve talked about it.”
