Nearly half of all the spots on this week’s edition of the World Digital Song Sales chart are filled by brand new tracks. Half a dozen tunes launch on the weekly ranking of the bestselling “world” cuts, making the 15-space tally feel refreshed.
Three of those brand new songs come from South Korean boy band Seventeen, who are no strangers to the World Digital Song Sales chart. In fact, one of their debuts helps them move up on an important all-time ranking, once again proving their immense popularity all around the world.
Seventeen’s new single “Hot” arrives at No. 3 on this week’s World Digital Song Sales chart, bringing the band back to the highest tier on the tally. The track is the highest-ranking start of the frame, coming in behind only Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’Ole’s unstoppable “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” at No. 1 and Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran’s collaborative “Peru” at No. 2.
“Hot” is Seventeen’s twenty-first top 10 hit on the World Digital Song Sales chart, and it ties them with fellow South Koran vocal group Shinee for the fifth-most placements between Nos. 1 and 10 in the history of the ranking, according to Billboard. Both acts only need one more win to advance again, at which point either of them will tie B.A.P, who have thus far accrued 22 top 10s on the list.
In a very, very distant first place among all acts when looking at which names have landed the most top 10 hits on the World Digital Song Sales chart is BTS. The South Korean septet has now reached the top tier with an astounding 108 different tracks, and that sum is sure to climb in the coming months and years. BTS isn’t just in first place, they claim more than twice as many top 10 songs as the runner-up.
In second place comes Exo, with 45 top 10 smashes on the World Digital Song Sales chart. Another K-pop band, Big Bang, lands in third on this all-time ranking with 26 top 10 hits.
As “Hot” opens at No. 3, two other Seventeen tracks also debut on the World Digital Song Sales chart, though they don’t quite make the top 10. “Don Quixote” and “Shadow” arrive at Nos. 14 and 15, respectively. Both tunes are featured on Seventeen’s new album Face The Sun, which starts its time on the closely-related World Albums ranking at No. 4.
