Justin Bieber Calls Off Justice World Tour—Again—Amid Struggle With Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome

Topline

Justin Bieber announced Tuesday the cancellation of his Justice World Tour because of health struggles related to his diagnosis of Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome earlier this year—adding to the handful of times the tour has been delayed or canceled because of Covid-19 and the singer’s condition.

Key Facts

In a statement posted to his Instagram story, Bieber said he was overcome with exhaustion after performing this weekend in Brazil, “and I realized that I need to make my health a priority right now.”

The singer said he’s “going to take a break from touring for the time being” as he needs “time to rest and get better.”

It’s not clear how long the break will last or if the shows are canceled for good.

Crucial Quote

“I’m going to be ok, but I need time to rest and get better,” Bieber said.

Key Background

The Justice World Tour was supposed to start in 2021, but was delayed until this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In February, Bieber had to postpone a show in Las Vegas after testing positive for the virus. In June, amid the tour’s North American leg, Bieber revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome, a rare reaction to a virus which caused partial paralysis on one side of his face. He initially canceled just a few dates of the tour, but shortly expanded that to the rest of the shows on the continent to focus on his health. Bieber, 28, resumed touring in July. The former child star has been open about his other health struggles, including past issues with drugs, mental health battles, and a diagnosis of Lyme disease, which he chronicled in his 2020 docuseries Justin Bieber: Seasons.

Tangent

Bieber is not the only star stepping back from touring to focus on their health. In July, Shawn Mendes—whom Bieber has previously collaborated with—announced he was canceling the remainder of his Wonder world tour to put “health as my first priority,” after he had been open about his current mental health struggles.
