Jung Kook is having a historic year as he branches out from BTS and officially goes solo. Things are going incredibly well for the star, and with each new tune he releases, he finds new ways to break records and do what no other artist from his home country has managed.
This week, Jung Kook charts his second major hit in the U.K. on his own, and as the song arrives, he manages to make history once again. The BTS singer’s new song “3D” debuts on the U.K. singles chart at No. 5 this week. According to the Official Charts Company, Jung Kook is now the first South Korean solo artist to reach the top five on the tally twice.
Earlier this summer, Jung Kook proved his immense popularity as his single “Seven” launched and peaked at No. 3. At the time, the tune earned the distinction of being the highest-debuting song by a South Korean soloist in the country’s history.
Jung Kook may be the only solo star from South Korea to reach the top five more than once, but when looking at all acts, he’s not actually alone. Only BTS has managed the feat before, so now Jung Kook is a part of both names that have managed the feat. BTS has seen their singles “Dynamite,” “Butter,” and “My Universe” with Coldplay all break into the top five. Coincidentally, all three of those hits have peaked at No. 3.
Both “3D,” which features Jack Harlow, and “Seven,” which credits Latto as a featured artist, are set to be featured on Jung Kook’s forthcoming debut solo album, Golden. That project is expected to arrive on November 3.
