Jung Kook Makes Billboard Chart History With His New Hit

As Jung Kook’s highly anticipated solo album Golden prepares to storm the Billboard charts, the South Korean sensation achieves an impressive feat with his latest collaboration, “Too Much.” This track secures the singer an important placement on some of Billboard’s radio-focused lists, including one that seldom sees South Korean artists.

“Too Much,” a collaboration led by The Kid Laroi and featuring Central Cee, makes its debut on the Rhythmic Airplay chart, a weekly ranking of tunes dominating radio stations across the U.S. that specialize in rhythmic music—an eclectic fusion of R&B, hip-hop, and pop. The track begins its journey on the chart at No. 25.

Jung Kook’s groundbreaking entry onto the Rhythmic Airplay chart sets a historic milestone for South Korean musicians in several ways.

With this new hit to his credit, Jung Kook becomes the second South Korean solo artist to grace the Rhythmic Airplay chart, following in the footsteps of the iconic Psy. Over a decade ago, Psy’s global phenomenon “Gangnam Style” reached No. 15, marking the beginning of the enduring K-pop phenomenon.

So far, only three South Korean acts have managed to secure a spot on the Rhythmic Airplay tally. Alongside Psy, Jung Kook stands shoulder to shoulder with BTS, the globally acclaimed group of which he is a member. BTS, currently on hiatus, has left its mark on the chart with two entries. “Mic Drop,” featuring rapper Desiigner and remixed by Steve Aoki, reached No. 40 in 2018. Their later release “Butter” performed slightly better, peaking at No. 38.

“Too Much” is not only the fourth song by a South Korean artist to find its way to the Rhythmic Airplay chart, but it also immediately becomes the second-highest charting hit on the ranking. With its promising debut, there’s anticipation for further growth in the coming weeks as the track receives additional promotion.
