John Lennon Fans Have A Big Reason To Celebrate This Week

Even decades after his death, John Lennon continues to not only appear on music charts all around the world, but also collect new hits and even launch albums. The legendary Beatles musician scores a new bestselling full-length this frame in the United Kingdom as Power to the People, a collaboration with the late star’s wife Yoko Ono, debuts across several rankings.

Power to the People, which was recently released as a massive box set aimed solely at die-hard followers of the peace-promoting star, even manages to kick off its time inside the top 10 on multiple lists across the Atlantic, and its arrival proves once again just how beloved Lennon still is to this day – not that such a fact needed to be highlighted.

John Lennon’s Brand New Posthumous Top 10 Album

Power to the People debuts inside the highest tier on two of the five U.K.-based rankings on which it appears for the first time this frame. Lennon collects his fifth solo top 10 win on the Official Physical Albums chart as Power to the People coincidentally opens in fifth place.

John Lennon’s Winning Streak Continues

The rocker has been posthumously racking up bestsellers recently on the Official Physical Albums chart, as his four most recent additions to his growing catalog of hits have all cracked the top 10. Lennon’s Gimme Some Truth arrived in October 2020 and hit No. 1, while Plastic Ono Band and Mind Games climbed as high as Nos. 2 and 6, respectively. Lennon first reached the top 10 on the Official Physical Albums tally with Lennon Legend: The Very Best Of, which arrived on the ranking back in 1997 and eventually peaked at No. 4.

How Many Solo Albums Has John Lennon Charted?

The Beatles superstar has now landed on the Official Albums Sales chart — which is more competitive than the Official Physical Albums roster — with half a dozen projects, and four of them have entered the top 10 for at least one frame.

Just as is the case on the physical-only ranking, Gimme Some Truth stands as Lennon’s only champion, with one frame spent at No. 1. Plastic Ono Band holds as his second-highest-rising title, as it topped out at No. 3. Power to the People is now Lennon’s third-highest-climbing solo collection on the Official Albums Sales chart, as its No. 6 starting point beats the No. 7 peak that Mind Games reached last summer.

How Did John Lennon’s Power to the People Perform?

Power to the People also manages to find its way to three additional lists in the U.K. this frame. Lennon nearly collects another top 10 success on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, as his collaborative project starts at No. 12. Power to the People also makes space for the first time on both the Official Album Downloads and Official Albums rosters, entering at Nos. 62 and 72, respectively.

What Is Included in John Lennon’s Power to the People Box Set?

Power to the People, which is credited to Lennon, Ono, the Plastic Ono Band, and Elephants Memory – a group that is remembered almost exclusively as the backing outfit for Lennon as a soloist – was released on October 10. The deluxe version of the box set is a massive undertaking, even for Lennon’s most ardent supporters, as it includes nine CDs, three Blu-ray discs, and a book that runs more than 200 pages long.

The project is based around the two shows that Lennon and Ono performed at the One to One concert in August 1972 at Madison Square Garden, which raised funds for a local nonprofit effort. The tracklist includes famed Lennon cuts like “Instant Karma! (We All Shine On),” “Imagine,” and “Give Peace a Chance,” as well as The Beatles smash “Come Together” and dozens of other originals and covers.
