John Fogerty Hits No. 1 For The First Time

John Fogerty has been part of rock music for more than half a century. First with Creedence Clearwater Revival and then on his own, he’s written dozens of memorable tunes, which are still played endlessly to this day. He still tours constantly, he still draws crowds, and his catalog keeps finding new life with every generation that stumbles onto his swampy riffs and plain-spoken melodies.

This week, fans in the United Kingdom push a new Fogerty collection onto a number of charts – one which sees him taking a page out of Taylor Swift’s book.

John Fogerty Scores His First Americana No. 1

Legacy – The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years – Fogerty’s album of some of his biggest hits, re-recorded so he owns everything, a la Swift’s famed Taylor’s Versions – opens at No. 1 on the Official Americana chart. It’s Fogerty’s first leader on that tally, and it arrives in at the summit right out of the gate. He’s been releasing music under “Americana” in spirit since long before the label was widely used, so seeing him finally claim a No. 1 under the banner feels overdue.

Legacy Starts Inside the Top 10 on Two Sales Lists

The compilation doesn’t just perform well on one genre ranking in the U.K. Legacy debuts at No. 10 on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts. Its arrival gives Fogerty his first top 10 on each of those rosters.

Downloads and Vinyl Join the Party

Digital buyers showed up to support the rocker as well. The new release begins its time at No. 20 on the Official Album Downloads chart, adding a second digital-era win to Fogerty’s U.K. history on that list. Legacy also lands at No. 39 on the Official Vinyl Albums chart. It’s not a top-tier start on wax, but it does manage to become a top 40 success right away.

John Fogerty Grows His Overall Album Count

Beyond the format breakdowns, Fogerty’s release hits the country’s main albums list. Legacy opens at No. 84 on the Official Albums chart, bringing the singer-songwriter’s total number of entries on that roster to six. He’s also now placed six different titles on the Official Physical Albums chart, with this latest one becoming the first to break into the top 10.
