Jisoo Matches Her Blackpink Bandmates Lisa And Rosé With Her First Global Top 10 Hit

Jisoo, one of the four members of the K-pop girl group Blackpink, makes history with her debut solo single “Flower” this week, which has instantly become a breakout smash all around the world.

While the track did not quite reach the top of the Billboard Global 200, the chart company’s weekly ranking of the most-consumed songs in the world, it did arrive close to the summit, starting off at No. 2. This frame marks the first time Jisoo has entered the highest tier on the competitive worldwide tally all on her own.

By finding space between Nos. 1 and 10 on the Billboard Global 200, she becomes only the third South Korean solo female musician to score a top 10 on the tally. The only other two women who have accomplished this feat? Her bandmates in Blackpink.

This achievement not only points to the unprecedented popularity of the group, but it also highlights the fact that these are still early days for female soloists hailing from South Korea when it comes to taking over the world.

Rosé made history as the first solo female South Korean artist to break into the top 10 on the Billboard Global 200, which she managed back in March 2021. She not only sent a tune into the region, she conquered the list. Her debut single apart from her Blackpink bandmates, “On the Ground,” didn’t stay on the ground; it bolted to No. 1.

Six months later, fellow BP singer Lisa nearly repeated that success, as her first release as a soloist, “Lalisa,” stalled at No. 2. While she didn’t hit No. 1, she did accomplish something her predecessor didn’t: a pair of top 10s. Lisa’s follow-up smash “Money” climbed to No. 10, giving her twice as many placements in the region as any other solo female artist from South Korea.

As a group, Blackpink has thus far landed four top 10 hits on the Billboard Global 200. That’s as many of all of its members on their own, combined. That sum includes two No. 1s, as both “Pink Venmo” and “Shut Down” dominated the list at one point in 2022.
