Jimin’s ‘Face’ Breaks Records In Korea As It Passes 1 Million Sales In Its First Week

South Korean singer Jimin has made history with his debut solo release Face, which has been successful worldwide, but particularly in his home country.

According to the Hanteo chart, which is one of the most important music charts and trackers of sales information in South Korea, Face racked up first-week sales of 1,454,223 copies. These sales numbers shattered records in South Korea and proved that Jimin is a powerhouse on his own.

Jimin’s solo EP was so highly anticipated that it managed to sell most of those copies immediately. According to Hanteo (and reported by AllKPop), the title sold more than one million copies in South Korea on its first day of availability alone. This made Jimin the first male soloist in Hanteo history to have an album blow past one million sales just
just
on the first day of release. Previously, that bit of history was held by Lim Young Woong’s I’m Hero, which reportedly sold 940,000 copies during its first day of availability.

According to the company, Face is the fastest-selling album sales by a South Korean soloist of all time. With those kinds of numbers, Face will likely end up as one of the most successful releases of 2023 in South Korea, if not the best-selling, depending on what else comes along.

It is important to note that the sales figures in South Korea are actual purchases, unlike in the U.S., where charts often incorporate streams and publish equivalent units. South Korean music fans are more accustomed to buying CDs, so sales numbers are often many multiples higher than in Western markets, especially for superstars like Jimin.

The set easily debuted at No. 1 on the company’s weekly chart and quickly ranked as the bestselling title in March 2023, outselling Jisoo’s Me nearly twice over. Face is Jimin’s first project on his own, but he has already rocked the Hanteo charts and lists all around the world as a member of BTS.
