BTS superstar Jimin makes a splashy debut on the Hot 100 this week, with his new single “Set Me Free Pt. 2” debuting at No. 30. It starts off as the third-highest launch of the frame, and it marks another placement on the Hot 100 for Jimin, who has quickly become one of the most popular soloists in K-pop.
With his latest placement, Jimin has now snagged the highest-charting solo hit of his career. He has also tied several other musicians from his home country in a special showing of power and popularity.
When looking at the number of Hot 100 solo hits they’ve accrued, Jimin is now on the same level as fellow BTS musician Jung Kook as well as CL and Blackpink member Lisa. The four artists are all tied for the fourth-most wins on the competitive tally among solo K-pop acts.
Jimin has managed to nab both of his Hot 100 hits in 2023. He and Taeyang pushed their collaborative “Vibe” to No. 76 in January, and now he’s returned on his own, rising higher than ever before.
Leading the charge among K-pop stars who have hit the Hot 100 most often is Psy. He started the trend of soloists breaking onto the tally more than a decade ago with “Gangnam Style,” and he’s since collected a total of five smashes, including a new one in 2022.
Another BTS talent, J-Hope, comes next on the list, having charted four Hot 100 hits aside from the band. Yet another BTS musician, Suga, is in third place, as he has now collected a trio of Hot 100 hits. He’s done so both as Suga and Agust D, a name he uses sometimes when releasing solo material.
Of course, Jimin, Jung Kook, J-Hope, and Suga have all charted major hits together as BTS. The seven-member vocal band has grossed half a dozen No. 1 smashes on the ranking and scored 10 top 10 hits. With 26 BTS cuts having appeared somewhere on the Hot 100, there’s no denying that the band is one of the most successful K-pop acts of all time. As the members continue to pursue solo projects, they are sure to continue to show themselves to be winners both with the group and on their own.
