BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – MAY 21: Jayson Tatum #0 of the Boston Celtics reacts during the third … More
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum missed his first career playoff game Wednesday night due to a bone bruise in his right wrist that he suffered in Game 1 Sunday while going for a dunk.
Tatum sat on the bench in street clothes as Game 2 of Boston’s series with the Orlando Magic began.
“He is day-to-day,” TNT’s Stephanie Ready said on air. “They’re going to have to evaluate how he feels every single day. It’s all depending on how much [pain] he can take but also keeping in mind what the team needs.….Is it important that they get him back in this first round?”
Tatum, a six-time NBA All-Star, was initially listed as doubtful for the game before the Celtics ruled him out about an hour before tip-off.
The six-time All-Star had played in 114 playoff games during his eight years in Boston, never missing a postseason game.
Boston did go 8-2 during the regular season without Tatum.
“I know he’s doing everything he can to put himself in position to play,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla told reporters pre-game. “He’ll be day to day.”
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope got a Flagrant 1 foul for pushing Tatum on the dunk attempt. Tatum landed on the court and held his wrist.
Game 3 is set for Friday in Orlando.
