Janet Jackson Is Back On The Charts With One Of Her Biggest Hits

Janet Jackson is back on the charts again, and it’s not because she dropped a brand new single. Instead, one of her classics is a win once more as a new generation of listeners discovers the track via TikTok, while longtime lovers of the singer’s work return to the tune. The cut, which dates back more than two decades, has become a viral favorite, and that momentum is now translating into sales and streams.

“Someone To Call My Lover” Returns

“Someone To Call My Lover” is back on the Official Dance Singles chart in the U.K. The track reappears at No. 31 on the list of the top-performing tunes in the genre across the Atlantic. After spending decades out of the spotlight, the cut is suddenly racking up sales and streams, thanks almost entirely to attention it’s currently receiving on TikTok.

A Historic Coincidence for Janet Jackson

Despite being released more than 20 years ago, “Someone To Call My Lover” has now appeared on the Official Dance Singles chart in just two frames. In a strange twist of fate, both of those weeks saw the tune land in the exact same spot: No. 31.

The first time the song hit the U.K. ranking was back in August 2001. It debuted at No. 31 and then vanished, never to return, until now. The fact that it’s found its way back to the same position, two decades later, is a wild bit of coincidence.

“Someone To Call My Lover” Was a Hit From the Beginning

Originally released in the summer of 2001, “Someone To Call My Lover” served as the second single from Jackson’s album All for You. The tune samples America’s “Ventura Highway” and features a breezy, radio-friendly sound that helped it become one of the standout tracks from that era of her career.

In the U.S., “Someone To Call My Lover” peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100, giving Jackson yet another top 10 smash. It also performed well internationally, though it was a more moderate hit in the U.K., where it didn’t climb as high as some of her earlier efforts, as it rose to No. 11 on the main list of the most-consumed songs in the nation.

Janet Jackson’s Music Career Has Been Quiet Lately

While Jackson remains a touring bestseller and of course, an icon, she’s been fairly quiet when it comes to releasing new music. Her last proper single, “Made For Now,” arrived back in 2018. That cut, a collaboration with Daddy Yankee, peaked at No. 88 on the Hot 100, and it didn’t make much of an impact in the U.K.

The singer’s last full-length project, Unbreakable, came out in 2015. That album peaked at No. 11 in the U.K. but was a major win in the U.S., where it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
