According to the latest updates, James K. Filan, defense lawyer, the response of Ripple defendants to a brief asserting of the SEC that the Hinman documents are protected by the attorney-client privilege is scheduled on Friday, May 13. Meanwhile, the SEC’s response to the defendants is expected on May 18.
The SEC earlier had petitioned to file an additional brief in support of its assertion that internal documents about the former SEC official William Hinman are safeguarded from disclosure by the attorney-client privilege. Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn granted it in a text-only order.
In a last-ditch effort to block the release of emails relating to William Hinman, the former director of the SEC’s Division of Corporate Finance’s 2018 Ethereum lecture, the SEC is making additional privilege allegations.
Ripple defendants requested an extension until Friday, May 13, to respond to the SEC’s fresh allegations about the former SEC official’s emails, which was also granted, per their earlier updates supplied by the defense lawyer.
According to the recently published Q1, 2022, report, despite these apparent delays in the lawsuit, Ripple’s remittance technology continues to expand, with 8x YoY growth in ODL volumes.
