James Corden Set To Depart Late Late Show In 2023

James Corden’s time as host of The Late Late Show on CBS is coming to an end.

The late-night host has signed a one-year contract extension that will end his tenure after the 2022-23 season. Corden replaced previous host Craig Ferguson in 2015, gaining popularity with segments like Carpool Karaoke, Drop the Mic, Spill Your Guts, and Crosswalk Musical. His other hosting duties have included the Grammy and Tony awards, and the CBS competition show The World’s Best.

The Brit is also an actor known for co-creating and starring in Gavin & Stacey, as well as Peter Rabbit and Cats. He received his first Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy category for The Prom.

Together with Late Late Show EP Ben Winston, Corden is a partner in production company Fulwell 73 which oversees The Kardashians on Hulu and produced the one-off special music event An Audience With Adele.

His Carpool Karaoke featuring the superstar songstress has been watched more than 250M times on YouTube. The Late Late Show page trails only The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in late-night subscribers with 27M.

“Seven years ago, James Corden came to the U.S. and took television by storm, with huge creative and comedic swings that resonated in a big way with viewers on-air and online,” CBS president and CEO George Cheeks said in a statement. “From ‘Crosswalk the Musical’ to the legendary ‘Carpool Karaoke,’ and every unique comedy segment he introduced, James has truly reimagined many elements of the late-night format. He has also been the consummate network showman, entertaining audiences from his nightly perch at Television City as well as the Tony and Grammy stage.

“In my two years at CBS, I’ve had the privilege to see James’ creative genius up close and experience his valuable partnership with CBS, both as a performer and a producer. We wish he could stay longer, but we are very proud he made CBS his American home and that this partnership will extend one more season on The Late Late Show.”
