Jack Sock Retiring From Tennis, Poised To Play Pro Pickleball

Jack Sock, who achieved a career-high ranking of No. 8 in singles and No. 2 in doubles, is retiring from professional tennis after the U.S. Open and appears to be pursuing a career with the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA

Sock, 30, is poised to earn in the high six-figures annually in pickleball, one insider said.

Sock will play doubles at the U.S. Open with fellow American John Isner, who is also retiring after the tournament.

“Jack Sock had a heckuva run in pro tennis,” ESPN analyst Patrick McEnroe told me. “He had a great year in singles in 2017 [when he ended the year at career-high No. 8] And without a doubt, he was one of the very best doubles players in the last decade.

“He will have a great career in pickle too….he has tremendous skills for that game, too.”

According to the PPA Website, the tour includes “25 stops across the United States. All roads lead to the PPA Finals, the prestigious season finale held in San Clemente, CA, which features only the Top 8 qualified singles players and doubles teams in the world. The tournament also features the crowning of the year-end PPA World No. 1, the ultimate achievement in pickleball.”

The highest-paid pickleball players like Ben Johns reportedly earn in the low six-figures in prize money.

Sock is one of two active players to compete at Nitto ATP Finals in singles and doubles. He finished 2018 at a career-high No. 2 in doubles.
