Jack Black’s “Steve’s Lava Chicken” climbs to No. 21 on the Official Singles Chart in the U.K., … More
A week ago, it was just fun — and a little surreal — to see Jack Black notch a hit in the United Kingdom with a novelty tune from A Minecraft Movie. “Steve’s Lava Chicken,” a short, ridiculous track featured in the family flick, became a sudden success, thanks in large part to the film’s massive global box office debut. Days later, the joke hasn’t faded. In fact, the cut is climbing, and it’s now looking like a proper hit.
“Steve’s Lava Chicken” is Flying High on the Charts
In its second frame on the charts, “Steve’s Lava Chicken” proves it wasn’t just a one-week wonder. The track rises across two important tallies in the U.K., showing growing interest among fans of both A Minecraft Movie and Black…and likely beyond those two as well.
On the Official Singles Downloads chart, the tune bolts from No. 57 to No. 34, which is an impressive jump for any cut, let alone one from a video game-themed movie. But the bigger leap comes on the Official Singles tally, the all-genre ranking that tracks the most-consumed songs in the country across all formats. There, “Steve’s Lava Chicken” soars from No. 77 to No. 21, narrowly missing the top 20, though it could easily climb into that space in just a matter of days.
The Single is Now a Streaming Win
As if those gains on a pair of rosters weren’t impressive enough, “Steve’s Lava Chicken” also manages to debut on another U.K. list this week. The tune opens at No. 39 on the Official Streaming chart, meaning it’s now one of the 40 most-streamed songs in the country.
“Steve’s Lava Chicken” Makes A Minecraft Movie Even Bigger
Black performs “Steve’s Lava Chicken” more than once in A Minecraft Movie, and even though the tune is brief — really brief — it’s managed to find an audience. People are streaming it, people are buying it, and some young viewers are probably quoting it endlessly at home. The success of the seconds-long tune is a clear byproduct of the movie’s total domination.
A Minecraft Movie has already brought in more than $700 million globally, just a few weeks after debuting in theaters. It’s currently the second-highest-grossing film of 2025, with only Ne Zha 2 faring better — and that one’s in another box office league entirely, as it sits more than $1 billion ahead of the video game-focused production.
