Topline
Ivanka Trump, daughter and former White House senior adviser to President Donald Trump, will appear Tuesday before the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, multiple news outlets report, just days after her husband and former White House senior adviser Jared Kushner testified before the panel.
Key Facts
Trump is set to appear before the committee remotely, ABC News and NPR reports, citing anonymous sources familiar with the plans.
The January 6 committee asked Trump in January to voluntarily meet with the panel to discuss “a range of critical topics,” including what she witnessed in the Oval Office on the morning of January 6, while President Trump spoke on a phone call with then-Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump’s testimony comes after Kushner voluntarily provided “really valuable” information during his six-hour appearance before the committee on Thursday, Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va.) and member of the January 6 committee said during an interview on MSNBC.
Representatives for Trump and the January 6 committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Forbes.
Key Background
The White House waived executive privilege claims for Ivanka Trump and Kushner last week, paving the way for their testimonies before the committee. While Kushner wasn’t at the White House on January 6, the committee has expressed interest in obtaining information from Trump regarding at least two conversations she had with her father that day, and what she observed during a phone call between President Trump and Vice President Pence on efforts to enlist Pence in a plan to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Committee officials have not yet disclosed what Kushner spoke about during his testimony.
Tangent
The House of Representatives are heading toward a vote on whether to hold former Trump communications staffer Daniel Scavino Jr. and former trade adviser Peter Navarro in contempt of Congress after they defied subpoenas to appear before the committee. Former adviser Steve Bannon was indicted for contempt of Congress in November after the House voted to hold him in contempt for refusing to comply with a subpoena, and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was also referred to the Department of Justice for a contempt of Congress citation, though he has not been charged.
What To Watch For
The January 6 committee is expected to share its findings on the events leading up to, and after, the attack on the Capitol publicly this spring, NPR reports.
