Is This FC Barcelona Ace Lamine Yamal’s Real New Salary Figure?

FC Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal put Culers and their minds at rest for at least the next six years by penning a new contract extension on Tuesday afternoon, as announced by the club.

“FC Barcelona and Lamine Yamal have reached an agreement for the renewal of his contract which will now tie him to the Club until 30 June 2031.

The player signed his new contract on Tuesday at the Club’s offices in the presence of FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, first vice president Rafa Yuste, and the Club’s sporting director Anderson Luis de Souza ‘Deco’, amongst others,” ran an official statement on the matter.

Barca said that the “contract extension for Lamine Yamal is another demonstration of the solidity of the current Barça project” and noted that he has “played a leading part in several vital victories for the Blaugranes amid him claiming the Golden Boy trophy, the Kopa Trophy and “being recognised at the Laureus awards”.

“There will surely be more to come with Lamine set to remain in Barça colours until 2031 at least,” the club concluded.

Lamine’s father Mounir was clearly made happy by the developments on Tuesday and was captured shouting “Visca el Barca” (“long live Barca”) with a raised fist after the deed was done at the Joan Gamper CT.

From the stands in the Estadi Johan Cruyff, father and son took a photo which Mounir captioned “19.3” and therefore sent tongues wagging.

Citing anonymous sources, outlets such as El Chiringuito reported that Lamine will be paid $9 million (€8 million) a year which rises $2.3 million (€2 million) per season.

Yet some are interpreting Mounir’s post as Lamine actually taking home $21.8 million (€19.3 million) per annum, at the same time others think that this value minus taxes leaves the youngster with around the original quoted amount.

SPORT highlights other interpretations, such as the ‘19’ pointing to Lamine’s number – soon expected to be Lionel Messi’s old ‘10’ – and ‘3’ a nod to the amount of titles Barca won in Hansi Flick’s maiden campaign this season, or it being related to a passage from the Koran.

Some relate it to symbolic or personal data linked to Lamine’s career (number and titles this season), even with his new contract, although it could also be related to a religious passage from the Koran.

Whatever the real figure, FC Barcelona has still paid cheap for a kid it has had on its books since the age of seven when he joined La Masia. Approaching towards the end of the decade, however, another extension should see the Catalans having to shell out even more money to keep a figure that could have already won several Ballon d’Ors by then happy.
