Adele loves to keep people guessing, staying quiet about what she’s working on and when the public will know about anything she’s involved with until the time is just right. While the superstar hasn’t specifically said anything about launching a new business, recent trademark filings suggest that she might be expanding her horizons beyond music.
The singer was approved for a trademark in the U.K. for a new company called The Shelbourne Collective Limited. The trademark, filed earlier this week and caught by The Mirror, has been classified by the British government under the label 74100, which encompasses “specialised design activities,” according to an online copy of the filing.
That classification opens Adele up to do many things with The Shelbourne Collective Limited. Many media outlets immediately suggested that her focus may be cosmetics, but that’s not all she could produce with the new venture. She may also want to become an entrepreneur in fashion, accessories, or even home design, which should all be covered by the same classification, according to The Messenger.
Adele’s move into trademarking a business entity raises questions about her post-music career plans, or potential additions to her already illustrious musical dominance. Many successful artists have successfully transitioned their fame on the Billboard charts into various other fields, leveraging their popularity and well-tailored brands to explore avenues such as fashion, fragrance, cosmetics, and even housewares. Sometimes, they can end up making millions from these ventures, such as Rihanna and Kanye West.
The timing of Adele’s business speculation comes hot on the heels of her recently concluded Las Vegas residency, Weekends With Adele. The run of concerts was extended multiple times, due to popular demand, but she is now done for the year. She’ll return to Sin City for more performances in January 2024.
The Grammy winner is known for taking substantial breaks between album releases, so new music isn’t expected anytime soon. Adele’s last musical offering was her full-length 30, which was released in late 2021.
While trademark filings do not necessarily guarantee concrete business developments, they often serve as indicators of a musician’s interests beyond their primary profession. Adele’s potential venture into a collective that spans diverse design activities is intriguing, especially considering the fact that she seemingly hasn’t spoken about such ambitions in the past.
