IoTeX announces to launch L2 Network W3bstream for DePIN

IoTeX Foundation has shared its plans for bringing W3bstream to light, a layer-2 rollup that is being specifically designed for DePIN. The objective is to help DePIN navigate its way around the scalability challenge. Blockchain technology can be integrated at any moment; however, it has its limitations at a time when there is an imperative need to balance a robust trust foundation.

Simply put, DePIN applications face the issue of scalability, and the IoTeX Foundation is introducing W3bstream for it.

Indeed, the Ethereum roll-up technique is a source of inspiration, such as ensuring the right functioning and functionality of the implementation till the endpoint. W3bstream diverges in certain aspects pertaining to its primary components. Some of these components are a decentralized sequencer network, decentralized aggregator network, sovereign smart devices, Layer-1 network, and data availability layer.

Sovereign smart devices are deployed in the physical world. They not only collect data but also inscribe a mark of trustworthiness in the data collection process. Sovereign smart devices have often been defined as crucial for data trustworthiness.

The data availability layer assists in storing data temporarily. This pertains to those pieces of data that are received from devices. The responsibility of the data availability layer spans over on-chain and off-chain collection, marking the difference from persistent storage due to its short-term nature.

DSN, an acronym for decentralized sequencer network, is tasked with reaching a consensus on data that has been collected from devices and is stored in the previous layer, which is the data availability layer. DSN has an important role here in the process because consensus is necessary for the community to reach any meaningful computation that has to be carried out.

Then, a decentralized aggregator network, known as it performs computations. A decentralized aggregator network retrieves data in batches from the first layer and proceeds to generate aggregated Zk-proofs for multiple devices or for a single device. Zk-proofs generated can be verified on the Layer-1 network, provided off-chain aggregators have generated them.

That makes the Layer-1 network the trust foundation and settlement for all DePIN applications.

The IoTeX Foundation launching W3bstream for DePIN is a mark of a contribution in the process of empowering its scalability. The core principle is to handle data pre-processing through DSN. W3bstream is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency and throughput of DePIN applications.

DePIN application support is not limited to a particular blockchain. Irrespective of the blockchain on which a project is built, it is eligible to receive the necessary assistance from W3bstream. The architectural design renders it a highly suitable contender with regard to the security and scalability of the infrastructure.

The development comes days after the IoTeX Foundation announced its partnership with Streamr to supercharge DePIN data. The partnership is said to have marked a significant milestone in the process of developing DePINs. It is further a collaboration of cutting-edge technology, real-world sensors, computing power, connectivity, and AI.
