‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’s’ Paramount+ Release Comes Not Long After Tom Cruise’s Oscar Recognition
The release of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in theaters marked the first of two major achievements this year. In addition to the release of the film in May, Tom Cruise was awarded an Honorary Oscar by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences at its 2025 Governors Awards on Nov. 16.
In a June press release announcing the film icon’s Honorary Oscar, Academy President Janet Yang said, “Tom Cruise’s incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community has inspired us all.”
During his acceptance speech at the Governors Awards, Cruise said in part, “The cinema, it takes me around the world. It helps me to appreciate and respect differences. It shows me also our shared humanity, how alike we are in so, so many ways.
“And no matter where we come from, in that theater, we laugh together, we feel together, we hope together, and that is the power of this art form. And that is why it matters, that is why it matters to me. So, making films is not what I do, it is who I am.”
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, produced by and starring Tom Cruise, arrives on Paramount+ on Dec. 4.
