Topline
Bryan Kohberger—the suspect in the murder of four University of Idaho students last November—was indicted by an Idaho grand jury on murder charges Wednesday, leading to the cancellation of a preliminary hearing and paving the way for his arraignment and highly anticipated trial.
Key Facts
He is expected to appear in a Moscow, Idaho, courtroom on Monday for his arraignment and to enter his plea.
Kohberger was arrested in December and charged with four counts of first-degree murder and burglary and for allegedly breaking into a Moscow home and killing the students.
Prosecutors were not expected to take the case before a grand jury, NBC News reported, but the panel’s indictment allows them to forgo a preliminary hearing that was scheduled for late June that would have involved presenting evidence and allowing cross-examination of the state’s witnesses to determine if there was enough evidence for indictment.
Under Idaho law, the prosecution must prove there is enough evidence either through a grand jury or a preliminary hearing.
