Key Facts
Thousands of demonstrators marched the streets of downtown Minneapolis, according to CBS Minnesota, which noted community members called for a “Day of Truth and Freedom” that involved no work, school or shopping.
Temperatures were below zero degrees Fahrenheit in the afternoon, reaching around -9, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a cold weather advisory through Saturday morning that warns of wind chill values between 25 and 35 degrees below zero.
An economic blackout was also encouraged in Minneapolis by demonstrators, with hundreds of small businesses expected to close their doors Friday in solidarity.

Key Background
Protests in Minnesota have persisted for weeks following Good’s death, which the Trump administration has largely justified by claiming she was trying to run over the agent who shot her. Officials like Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have rejected those claims, pointing to video of the shooting where Good could be seen turning the wheel right, away from the agent, who was in front of the left side of her car before the shooting occurred. ICE has ramped up its presence in Minnesota despite public backlash, increasing immigration operations and recently launching another operation in Maine, where protesters have also voiced their frustration.
