I Think Something Big Is Coming In Succession’s Next Episode

Something is about to happen in Succession but I don’t know what. Something big. Something bad, maybe. I’m not sure.

What I do know is that HBO is not sending out screeners to critics this week, which is a break from the norm. According to what I’ve heard, this is a blanket decision affecting all critics—not just me. That’s all I know. No reasons were given. It could be that screeners simply weren’t ready to go out. But my gut tells me this is HBO trying to make sure nothing leaks ahead of Sunday when the episode airs.

Here’s the preview trailer for Episode 3, which sees Connor and Willa finally tie the knot (or do they???):

The most hilarious moment in this trailer is when Connor asks Willa if she’s just with him for the money. Recall, Willa is an escort who Connor has quite literally paid to be with him. The entire relationship from the very beginning was transparently about money. This is actually one reason I’ve described it as more honest and healthy than pretty much any other relationship on Succession. Certainly none of Connor’s half-siblings have done well in their romantic partnerships.

Roman is incapable of having a normal sexual relationship with any of the women he’s been with. Kendall is divorced, barely sees his kids, and treats women like expensive props—easily gotten, even more easily discarded. Shiv is perhaps the worst of them all, telling Tom that she wants an open relationship on their wedding night and ignoring how badly this hurts him.

And the less we say about Logan’s forays into love and betrayal, the better. But still, hearing Connor say—with a straight face—that he thinks Willa is only with him for the money is side-splittingly funny.

As to what might be coming in Episode 3 . . . I have no idea! This is another reason I love Succession. You just can’t predict the twists and turns, but they always make perfect sense. Will Willa marry Connor or will the whole thing implode? Will Roman really go over the Dark Side completely? It makes sense for him to ditch his ridiculous siblings, but he surely can’t trust Logan, who’s very clearly using him to prevent the deal with GoJo from falling through. Could someone actually die and not just be metaphorically “killed” in a business deal? We’ll find out Sunday night, which also happens to Easter Sunday.

God I love this show.
