Hulu’s Upcoming Series ‘Wedding Season’ Is A Killer Love Story

There’s just something about a romantic comedy set against the backdrop of a wedding that renews our faith in love. It’s an almost surefire formula for the perfect escape flick.

Think My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Wedding Crashers or Father of the Bride, for example. Even in the classic When Harry Met Sally, the pair make-up at a wedding before their own happily ever after. These movies are classics that we rewatch time and again. It’s as if we cannot get enough of them.

For those who love everything about love (and weddings), Hulu just announced its upcoming rom-com series Wedding Season. This genre-busting tale takes the classic love story and adds murder, mystery, and a lot of mayhem into the mix. And instead of a two-hour movie, the viewer will get roughly eight hours of binge-time.

The new series centers around Katie and Stefan, who fall for each other at a wedding and begin an affair, despite Katie already having a fiancé. We all know that no wedding or relationship is perfect, but for these two, everything goes wrong.

Their doomed love story turns dark when Katie’s new husband and his entire family are murdered two months later at her wedding. The police think Stefan did it. Stefan thinks Katie did it. Were they both in on it? No one knows for sure what the truth is.

This action-packed show crisscrosses the United Kingdom and the U.S. as the lovebirds attempt to prove their innocence while on the run. Is this real love or more of a Gone Girl or True Romance scenario?

The online dating and wedding industries survive on the hopes and dreams of those searching for true love. On the flip side, we are equally obsessed when love implodes, as proven by the popularity of true crime podcasts, documentaries and TV series.

Hulu has been killing it with fantastic true crime series like The Dropout, The Girl from Plainville and Candy, but this series (thankfully) is not based on a real story. The streamer cordially invites you to binge-watch all eight episodes of this new rom-com action thriller starting Thursday, September 8.

Rosa Salazar (Undone and Brand New Cherry Flavor) stars as Katie, alongside Gavin Drea (Vikings: Valhalla) as Stefan. The cast, a mix of familiar and newer faces, includes Jade Harrison (The Stranger), Jamie Michie (Back to Life), Callie Cooke (Cheaters), Bhav Joshi (Crime), Ioanna Kimbrook (Choose or Die) and Omar Baroud (Baptiste).

Wedding Season comes from up-and-coming screenwriter Oliver Lyttelton (Cheaters) and is directed by George Kane (Crashing). The series is produced by Dancing Ledge Productions (The Responder, The Salisbury Poisonings, New Pope) with executive producers Chris Carey, Laurence Bowen and Toby Bruce alongside Jax Media (Russian Doll, Emily in Paris) and executive producers Brooke Posch, Lilly Burns and Tony Hernandez, with Johanna Devereaux from Disney+.
