Once upon a time, the term for a limited series was a miniseries. But, with the advent of the digital streaming services came a glut of series with a limited number of episodes. And suddenly this new phrase, limited series, was born.
The latest news in the limited series depart is an upcoming eight-episode true crime-themed entry on Hulu from ABC Signature called Under the Bridge, which tells the tale of the 1997 murder of Canadian teenager Reena Virk. The drama is based on Rebecca Godfrey’s 2005 book about the case, which delved into this case of a 14-year-old who went to join friends at a party and never returned.
Quinn Shephard, the writer and director of Hulu’s feature film Not Okay, is adapting Godfrey’s book and will executive produce. Liz Tigelaar (Little Fires Everywhere) and Samir Mehta (Tell Me Lies) will serve as showrunners, and Geeta Vasant Patel (House of the Dragon, Dead to Me) will direct.
Tigelaar and her banner Best Day Ever are currently under an overall deal at ABC Signature, and in production on the Hulu series Tiny Beautiful Things starring Kathryn Hahn.
No casting or a premiere date has been announced for Under the Bridge at press time.
