Hugh Jackman is returning to play Wolverine in next year’s Deadpool 3. That’s the good news.
The bad news? The movie isn’t coming out until September 6th, 2024—nearly two years from now!
Still, up until this point I was pretty convinced that Jackman was done with the role. Logan was such a perfect swan song for Jackman’s Wolverine. Spoilers—he dies in the film and it seems as though it’s lights out for the character, or at least Jackman’s version of the character, for good.
But nobody is ever really dead when it comes to superhero stuff. Superman doesn’t die even when he’s buried. Batman returns. And now, thanks to this cute little video from Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, we know that Jackman’s Wolverine is back as well—this time as part of the MCU:
After a goofy intro from Reynolds, he says “And I . . . I have nothing. Yeah… Just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”
Behind Reynolds we see Hugh Jackman walk across the room. “Hey Hugh, you wanna play Wolverine one more time?”
“Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman replies. Reynolds raises his eyebrows and grins. “And I will always love Hugh” plays in the background. Well, no, Tina Turner doesn’t sing Hugh, but they replace “you” with “Hugh” in the captions. Very cute, guys.
Hopefully Deadpool 3 is better than the second outing. I loved the original Deadpool but the sequel felt . . . off. Like it was trying too hard whereas the first movie felt unforced and more natural. At least this one has more time to come together.
What do you think about Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine? He sure is the perfect actor for the job. Let me know on Twitter or Facebook.
