It’s no secret that Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk loves to promote Tesla’s technological and product innovations. Tesla remains in the news as the annual AI Day is just around the corner, with the potential for a huge breakthrough in the much hyped space that is artificial intelligence. Millions will watch the AI Day live stream as the tech-obsessed fanbase is eager to see what Tesla will bring to the market next, including this curious Q.ai writer.
Let’s look at how you can watch Tesla AI Day and what real world breakthroughs we can expect from the leading electric vehicle manufacturer.
What is Tesla AI Day all about?
Tesla AI Day is Tesla’s annual display of the latest technology across various business sectors. We recently looked at how Tesla generates revenue from more than electric vehicles and broke down the Tesla stock split. While the company is known for its electric vehicles, core to the success of the company is its ability to innovate in the AI space with many ambitious projects already underway.
While companies like Apple
What can we expect from Tesla AI Day 2022?
There has been plenty of buzz about what we can expect this year from Tesla AI Day. The date was pushed back 40 days from August 19 to September 30. This got investors even more curious because as many believe they will see some new, up to the minute AI breakthroughs.
Here’s what you can expect from Tesla AI Day 2022.
Optimus
The promotional material shows that the Optimus humanoid robot could be the highlight of this year’s AI Day. Musk mentioned how everyone would be blown away by this AI innovation during the annual general meeting. Musk even believes that robots could become more valuable than electric vehicles.
The speculation online is that the company might have the Optimus prototype working by AI Day. Elon Musk has gone as far as to tweet about the prototype to give users further hope that they could see it by then.
Earlier this year, Musk mentioned that Tesla was prioritizing the product development of the Optimus humanoid robot in 2022 over its other products. The company even has an ambitious timeline for the project—they aim to start production in 2023. Many skeptics aren’t confident that this project could come to fruition quickly.
Musk has explained that the vision for this humanoid robot is for it to complete many mundane, repetitive, or dangerous tasks in everyday life, from picking groceries from the shelves to completing routine maintenance work.
Dojo Chip
The Dojo Chip is the in-house supercomputer announced last year that’s being designed to power future Tesla products. The company only unveiled its Dojo supercomputer last year while they were still ramping up its production efforts.
Many people are curious to see how the AI computing power of the Dojo Chip is coming along as we inch closer to self-driving cars becoming a reality.
Self-driving cars
Tesla continues to innovate by improving AI systems in fully self-driving cars, or FSD, as they call them. Some critics feel that fully self-driving cars are still a thing of the future, but it appears that Tesla intends to make them a reality sooner rather than later.
Elon Musk tweeted on September 15, 2022, version FSD Beta 10.69.2.1 was coming out within a few days with additional polish, while version FSD Beta 10.69.3 would come out right after AI Day.
Robotaxi
Once the fully self-driving car hits the market, Tesla wants to create its own Tesla Network taxi service. This project would use Tesla-owned vehicles and user-owned vehicles for a taxi service. Musk predicted that the robotaxi would be a combination of Airbnb and Uber. So you could rent out your vehicle for passive income at night while you sleep instead of just parking it in the garage.
Elon Musk has gone on record to say that the upcoming robotaxi would cost less per mile than a bus ticket. The vehicle would be optimized for autonomy, meaning it won’t have steering wheels or pedals.
Musk even confirmed that Tesla plans to reveal the vehicle in 2023, with mass production beginning in 2024.
This may be the most ambitious of all of Tesla’s AI innovations because the fully self-driving car hasn’t even hit the market yet. There could also be legal implications and safety concerns associated with offering a taxi service. Tesla hasn’t announced a pilot city for this project either, so it’s going to be interesting to see what kind of announcements are made on AI Day.
Safety updates
With Tesla aiming at fully self-driving cars, it will be intriguing to see what safety features they can introduce on AI Day because there will be many concerns about AI-related projects. The mass adoption of self-driving cars will likely require stringent safety testing and features.
AI Talent
Last year, Elon Musk stated that attracting the top AI talent is one of the major goals of Tesla’s AI Day. So it’s going to be fascinating to see if the company announces any new talent acquisitions since last year’s AI Day.
