Optimus
The promotional material shows that the Optimus humanoid robot could be the highlight of this year’s AI Day. Musk mentioned how everyone would be blown away by this AI innovation during the annual general meeting. Musk even believes that robots could become more valuable than electric vehicles.
The speculation online is that the company might have the Optimus prototype working by AI Day. Elon Musk has gone as far as to tweet about the prototype to give users further hope that they could see it by then.
Earlier this year, Musk mentioned that Tesla was prioritizing the product development of the Optimus humanoid robot in 2022 over its other products. The company even has an ambitious timeline for the project—they aim to start production in 2023. Many skeptics aren’t confident that this project could come to fruition quickly.

Robotaxi
Once the fully self-driving car hits the market, Tesla wants to create its own Tesla Network taxi service. This project would use Tesla-owned vehicles and user-owned vehicles for a taxi service. Musk predicted that the robotaxi would be a combination of Airbnb and Uber. So you could rent out your vehicle for passive income at night while you sleep instead of just parking it in the garage.
Elon Musk has gone on record to say that the upcoming robotaxi would cost less per mile than a bus ticket. The vehicle would be optimized for autonomy, meaning it won’t have steering wheels or pedals.
Musk even confirmed that Tesla plans to reveal the vehicle in 2023, with mass production beginning in 2024.
This may be the most ambitious of all of Tesla’s AI innovations because the fully self-driving car hasn’t even hit the market yet. There could also be legal implications and safety concerns associated with offering a taxi service. Tesla hasn’t announced a pilot city for this project either, so it’s going to be interesting to see what kind of announcements are made on AI Day.
