‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 2 Posters Show Rhaenyra And Alicent At War, ‘First Look’ Coming Soon

HBO has dropped the first two posters for the second season of House of the Dragon, the prequel to the hit series Game Of Thrones.

The first season’s finale aired back in October, 2022. The second season is slated for a summer 2024 release, though we don’t have a precise date just yet.

That could change soon. HBO is also teasing a “first look” at the new season tomorrow, December 2nd, which I’m assuming will be some kind of teaser trailer, though I suppose it could just be still images. This will take place at the Comic Con Experience in Brazil Saturday.

Olivia Cooke’s Alicent Hightower is pictured with the words “Blood for Blood” while Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra Targaryen, looking rather grim, has the words “Fire to Fire” in her poster. These are clearly references to George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the book upon which this show is based. (A great gift idea is this gorgeous illustrated version of the history of the Targaryen dynasty).

It took me a bit to warm up to House Of The Dragon, but by the finale I was completely enamoured. In my review of the finale, I wrote:

This was a tremendous and powerful season finale for House Of The Dragon. I have to say, this show has surpassed every expectation of mine. I’ve essentially watched every episode now twice except this one, and I fully intend to watch it another time now that the whole season is out. The show’s creators, Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik (the latter of whom has now left the show) have crafted a truly unique fantasy show. Nothing like it has been done before. This is a serious character drama. It is darker and slower and more serious and more grownup than Game Of Thrones.

It’s also not nearly as much fun as Game Of Thrones, at least in that show’s first six seasons, before the bad times and whatever brain fungus took over its showrunners’ minds. I’m very excited for Season 2, though having read the book I’m also dreading what’s to come. This is not a happy story.
