In an effort to grow its presence in the Asia Pacific region, Barclays has announced the appointment of Hossein Zaimi, the former Global Head of Equities and Global Co-Head of Securities Financing at HSBC, as its new Head of Markets for the Asia Pacific.
In a professional career of almost 30 years, Zaimi worked at companies like Crédit Lyonnais and Salmon Smith Barney. At HSBC, he spent nearly 17 years. According to Barclays, Zaimi’s extensive experience in the management of trading and structuring activities will play an important role in the company’s regional growth.
In his new role, Zaimi will report to Adeel Khan and Stephen Dainton, the Co-Heads of Global Markets. Regionally, the newly appointed Head of Markets for the Asia Pacific will report to Jaideep Khanna, the Head of Asia Pacific at Barclays.
“The success of Barclays’ Asia Pacific franchise is driven by our ability to attract and hire the best talent to grow our business. Hossein brings solid cross-product experience in APAC and has had global product ownership for FX and Equities for a number of years. We are confident that his broad expertise, coupled with a deep knowledge of Asian markets, will move us closer to achieving our goals and ambitions for the region,” Khanna said.
Recent Appointments
In the past 12 months, Barclays has expanded its team significantly to accelerate its growth in different regions. Last year, the financial services provider selected Angela Liu as the CEO of China. With the appointment of Zaimi, Barclays is planning to deliver best-in-class products and service offerings to its clients in the Asia Pacific.
“It is critical to our growth plan that we continue to build great teams and bring in strong leaders. Hossein is widely respected and equally recognized by peers and clients as one of the leading figures in the industry, and we’re very excited to have him join Barclays to further grow our franchise in APAC,” said Adeel Khan.
