Horror Hit ‘Black Phone 2’ Gets Streaming Date, Report Says

Black Phone 2, the hit horror thriller starring Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames, is reportedly coming soon to digital streaming.

The film — which was released in theaters on Oct. 17 — is the sequel to the 2021 horror hit Black Phone. The summary for Black Phone 2 reads, “Ethan Hawke returns to the most sinister role of his career as the Grabber seeks vengeance on Finn (Mason Thames) from beyond the grave by menacing Finn’s younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw).

“As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, the headstrong 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake.

“Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between the Grabber and her own family’s history. Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine.”

Black Phone filmmaker Scott Derrickson returns to direct Black Phone 2, which also stars Demián Bichir, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies and Arianna Rivas.

Black Phone 2 is expected to be released on Tuesday, Nov. 4, according to When to Stream. While When to Stream is typically accurate with its PVOD reports, the streaming tracker noted that Universal Pictures has not announced or confirmed the release date of the film on digital and it is subject to change.

When Black Phone 2 arrives on PVOD, it will be available on such digital platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube. Prime Video currently has the film up for preorder for purchase for $24.99. Since new PVOD rentals generally run $5 less than purchase prices, viewers can expect to rent Black Phone 2 for a 48-hour period for $19.99.

How Did Audiences And Critics Receive ‘Black Phone 2’?

Black Phone 2 to date has earned $51.4 million domestically and nearly $34.4 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $85.8 million. The film had a production budget of $30 million before prints and advertising costs, according to The Numbers.

The film earned a 73% “fresh” rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 161 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus reads, “Taking the consequences of its predecessor seriously, Black Phone 2 is a chilling sequel that mines memorable scares and thought-provoking themes from the scars that linger.”

In addition, audiences gave Black Phone 2 an 84% “fresh” Popcornmeter score based on 2,500-plus verified user ratings. RT’s audience summary is still pending.

Rated R, Black Phone 2 is expected to be released on PVOD on Nov. 4.
