HIVE Digital Technologies has announced plans to turn a newly acquired 7.2-megawatt data center in Toronto into a leading-edge hub for artificial intelligence.
The site, purchased through its subsidiary BUZZ HPC, will become the company’s first Tier 3 data center focused on AI infrastructure.
The facility will be upgraded to support liquid cooling systems and house up to 5,000 high-performance GPUs. These upgrades will power large-scale AI training and inference operations for both public and private sector clients across Canada.
Supporting AI Growth, Innovation, and Data Sovereignty
Craig Tavares, president and COO of BUZZ HPC, emphasized the importance of building AI infrastructure within national borders. “With the explosion of demand for HPC and AI compute capacity, this Toronto site gives us a critical footprint,” he said.
He added that the project ensures data residency and digital sovereignty by keeping AI infrastructure under Canadian ownership and control.
The center will also be capable of supporting sensitive government and enterprise workloads, reinforcing Canada’s leadership in AI and innovation.
