It has been a decade since Hilary Duff released her last album, Breathe In. Breathe Out., which was heralded as something of a return – though a short-lived one, as it turned out. While Duff started her career jointly as an actress with Disney Channel and a musical superstar – she was one of many talents who made a lot of money for the Disney corporation by extending her fame into both fields at the same time – she has experienced something of a lull lately, both with her acting career and as a singer.
In an effort to find her footing once more, Duff has returned to the pop sound that made her a superstar two decades ago by recently dropping a new single titled “Mature.” The track debuts on multiple charts in the United Kingdom this week, earning her a welcome comeback and also, in at least one instance, her first hit.
Hilary Duff’s Comeback Hit “Mature” Becomes a Top 40 Smash
“Mature” misses the main ranking of the most consumed tunes in the U.K., but it does manage to become not just a strong seller, but a top 40 success on two purchase-centric lists in the nation. “Mature” opens at No. 34 on the Official Singles Downloads chart and No. 39 on the Official Singles Sales tally.
Hilary Duff’s First Hit on One Chart
On the Official Singles Sales chart, which looks at the top-selling cuts of any genre or language and via any format, be it digital download, CD, or vinyl, “Mature” narrowly manages to become a top 40 success. Despite Duff’s popularity among a population that pioneered buying songs on iTunes. “Mature” marks Duff’s first placement-ever on the Official Singles Sales list.
Hilary Duff Earns Her Third Sales Hit With “Mature”
Over on the Official Singles Downloads tally, Duff scores her third career win as “Mature” arrives. All three of her songs that have found space on the roster, including “Wake Up” and “With Love,” also spent time inside the top 40.
How Long Has It Been Since Hilary Duff’s Last Hit?
Amazingly, it has been 18 years since the singer and actress last scored a new win on the downloads-only ranking. “With Love” spent one week on the Official Singles Downloads chart in the spring of 2007, and Duff has been missing ever since.
What Is Hilary Duff’s Biggest Hit Song?
As “Mature” debuts, it instantly becomes Duff’s highest-rising hit ever on the Official Singles Downloads list. The composition beats “Wake Up,” her first placement, by just one space.
“Wake Up” launched and peaked at No. 35 in November 2005. In a small bit of coincidence, it’s been almost exactly 20 years since Duff debuted on the Official Singles Downloads chart. “Wake Up” landed on the list dated November 19, 2005, while this current rundown is credited to November 20, 2025.
Breathe In. Breathe Out. Remains Duff’s Most Recent Album
“Mature” has been positioned as the first single from an upcoming album by Duff. The singer signed with Atlantic Records in September, but for the moment, no proper announcement about a title or release date has been shared.
Fans of Duff have been waiting for quite some time to hear from the multi-hyphenate, as her last album, Breathe In. Breathe Out., dropped in 2015. That set produced singles like “Chasing the Sun,” “All About You,” and “Sparks,” some of which enjoyed a modest amount of commercial success in major markets like the U.K. and U.S.
Duff has thus far released five full-lengths, including her first, a holiday affair titled Santa Claus Lane. She is best known for Metamorphosis, her self-titled Hilary Duff, Dignity, and Breathe In. Breathe Out., which were all marketed as traditional pop sets from the young starlet. Her compilation Most Wanted was also a commercial win, as it included several brand new cuts and was released at the height of her popularity.
