Next Sunday is one of America’s most sacred national holidays: The Super Bowl. Super Bowl LVII will see the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles compete in the year’s biggest sporting event. This is interesting for Last Of Us fans for two reasons.
First, Episodes 4 and 5 of the HBO show take place in Kansas City, but in the game this part of the story takes place in Pittsburgh, which is the other big city in Pennsylvania. Yes, it would be more ironic if the Super Bowl this year had the Chiefs facing off against the Steelers, but this is close enough. Besides, nobody likes the Steelers.
(Who are you rooting for in this year’s big game? Let me know on Twitter or Facebook.)
The second reason that the Super Bowl has any relevance whatsoever to The Last Of Us is that HBO is moving Episode 5’s air-date from Sunday, February 12th to Friday, February 10th in order to avoid competing with the game. This is wise. Not only will they avoid a potential dip in viewers, they’ll also give audiences a treat by releasing the episode early instead of simply postponing it to next weekend, which is what a lot of shows have done in the past.
The next episode will continue the story of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsay) as they navigate the hostile streets of Kansas City, where bandit leader Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey) is out for blood. The episode ended on a cliffhanger. Joel and Ellie were awoken by two mysterious strangers who we know are Henry (Lamar Johnson) and Sam (Keivonn Woodard). What happens next is a mystery—unless, of course, you’ve played the games.

I’ve been absolutely enthralled by The Last Of Us so far. As a huge fan of the first game, I love to see it come to life onscreen in such a faithful—but still creative—adaptation.
I also thought SNL’s new sketch with Pedro Pascal as Mario from Super Mario Bros and Mario Kart was hilarious. Check it out:
