Fortnite: Battle Royale Chapter 4, Season 1 is almost over and a brand new season filled with tons of exciting new content is just around the corner.
This includes a brand new Battle Pass that Epic has been teasing (with some great skins including an Attack On Titan crossover that’s already leaked online) and some welcome map changes, including the return of Lucky Landing—one of the game’s original Points Of Interest.
On top of that, the new futuristic Japan-themed season is reportedly adding first-person mode, which should be a radical departure from the Fortnite we’ve been playing for the past few years.
So when does Season 1 end and Season 2 begin? Here’s everything you need to know.
Server Downtime And Season 2 Trailer
We know for a fact the exact time Fortnite servers will go offline. Everything else is a bit murkier. Epic Games announced that server downtime will begin on Friday, March 10th at 2:00am ET. That translates to 11pm PT on March 9th for those of you on the West Coast.
Servers usually come back up after a few hours, so the game will almost certainly be ready to play when you wake up Friday morning—probably even before you wake up. This is a major departure from previous seasons, which have almost never started on a Friday. This means the new season will kick off just in time for the weekend, which is actually pretty good timing if you ask me!
This is also the beginning of Spring Break for many students and families around the country, which makes it an even better time to launch a new season of content for Fortnite.
The Season 2 trailer is apparently going to drop a little bit before the servers go down, though this is just a rumor.
What Else Can We Expect In Season 2?
Along with the Eren Yeager Attack On Titan skin, it looks like we’re getting a Waist Grappler item that functions a bit like Spider-Man’s webslinger from past seasons. It also sounds like Epic is once again ramping up the movement mechanics by adding wall-running, a wall-kick move and a new Katana melee weapon. Along with mantling, sliding and other new additions to movement gameplay, we could be in for some real parkour around the new Neo Tokyo location and elsewhere.
According to iFireMonkey (a Fortnite dataminer) six new locations are coming to the game. The code names for these are:
- Cyber Dragon
- Dojo
- Hot Springs
- Loot Island
- Neon City
- Zen Garden
Will There Be A Live-Event?
A mysterious rift has opened in the sky above the Fortnite island, which is something we’ve certainly seen before. Sometimes these rifts are a pretty big indicator that a live-event is on the way, but with no announcement or countdown timer this season, it seems unlikely. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility, but right now a trailer rather than a live-event is the better guess.
I’ll update this post if any new news about the release of Fortnite Chapter 4, Season 2 drops. See you on the island!
