Here is When Paul Atkins Can Become SEC Chairman

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is about to undergo a significant leadership transition, with Paul Atkins set to become the new chairman.

According to journalist Eleanor Terrett, the U.S. Senate is gearing up for a critical vote that could confirm Atkins in the role, potentially before the end of this week.

Fast-Tracked Senate Vote and Confirmation

The Senate has scheduled a cloture vote for Atkins at 11:30 a.m. ET on April 9, aimed at expediting the decision-making process. If successful, the final confirmation vote may follow later that same evening, possibly allowing Atkins to officially step into his role by the end of the week.

Currently, Mark Uyeda is serving as the SEC’s acting chairman, overseeing the agency’s more crypto-friendly policies. Under Uyeda’s leadership, the SEC has softened its approach, especially in high-profile cases like the Ripple lawsuit. However, once Atkins is confirmed, his tenure will mark the beginning of a new regulatory phase for the SEC.
