Has Aaron Rodgers’ Time With The Green Bay Packers Come To An End?

The Last Dance has ended.

And as Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers discussed his future late Saturday night, he didn’t sound like a man committed to an encore.

Rodgers and the Packers suffered a devastating 13-10 loss to visiting San Francisco in the NFC divisional playoffs.

Rodgers threatened not to play in Green Bay this season, but after skipping the entire offseason program, returned for the start of training camp. The Packers voided the 2023 season on Rodgers’ contract, making it easier for the two sides to part ways this upcoming offseason.

Will that happen? Rodgers addressed that and several other questions about his future after the loss to the 49ers.

Here’s what he had to say:

Q: Where does your future stand?

A: I mean, I did not think we’d be talking about this after this game, but I’m gonna take some time and have conversations with the folks around here and then take some time away and make a decision obviously before free agency or anything kind of gets going on that front. But it’s fresh right now. It’s a little shocking for sure. Definitely was hoping to have a nice week after the NFC Championship to enjoy the lead up and then start contemplating some things. I haven’t even let the moment really sink in yet.

Q: Does the way this season ended and the last couple affect your thinking?

A: Yeah, I mean of course it does, but there’s obviously a lot of decisions to be made. There’s a lot of players whose futures are up in the air, so definitely will be interesting to see which way some of those decisions will go, but I’ll have the conversations with Brian in the next week or so and get a little bit more clarity and think about my own future and how much longer I wanna keep doing this.

Q: Is that the issue, how long you want to play? Or is it still on the table to play somewhere else?

A: It’s tough to say at this point. I don’t think it’s fair to anybody or myself to really go down those paths at this point. It’s disappointing, sad and fresh, so I’ll have conversations in the next week or so and start to contemplate after that.

Q: Is it possible to still win Super Bowl here with all the changes coming?

A: I don’t know. That’s a fair question. Definitely one I’ve thought about, but there are a lot of decisions to be made and key players, a lot of guys … so many guys’ contracts are up or on the brink or salary cap stuff, so lot of decisions to be made. I don’t want to be part of a rebuild if I’m going to keep playing, so a lot of decisions in the next couple months.

Q: How much responsibility do you feel for season being over with the way you played?

A: Yeah a lot, I didn’t have a great night tonight. They did a good job of kind of getting me off the spot, and a better job of taking away some of the quick game we got going last time we played them. I missed a couple reads. I probably should have taken a couple hole shot chances a couple times. Obviously if I hit Allen (Lazard) on that deep in on the last drive, that probably gets us out to about midfield and then we’re a couple first downs away from being in field goal range. So definitely disappointed by some of the decisions I had tonight. I definitely take my fair share of blame tonight.

Q: What do you think your legacy is right now?

A: I don’t know. It’s, again, it’s raw right now. But … I’m very proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish here. Thankful—deeply thankful—for so many years here in the organization and all the incredible teammates and coaches that I’ve had over the years. That’s part of the legacy, I think—the friendships, and the memories on and off the field. But I don’t know. I’m still super competitive, still know I can play at a high level, so it’s going to be a tough decision, I have a lot of things to weigh in the coming weeks. But man, just so much gratitude for this city and this organization and such a long, long career here that I’m proud of and really thankful for all the men and women that work here, the men I’ve gotten to cross paths with, coaches and players over the years.

Q: What’s your relationship like with general manager Brian Gutekunst?

A: Brian came out, saw me on the West Coast, we had some good conversations, and from the day I got back, I felt like there was earnest decisions on both sides to meet in the middle, to communicate. I’m very thankful to be part of the conversations I was a part of, to feel like my opinion mattered, to feel an even deeper and more meaningful support from him and Russ and Mark, so that was definitely a special part of the season, to see that relationship grow. I think he put together a really nice team, a team that could have won the Super Bowl. And he deserves a lot of credit for some of the moves that he made. Disappointed we couldn’t put it together for him and the organization tonight, and disappointed it’s ending.
