Topline
Harry Styles’ newly released album Harry’s House broke the record for the biggest vinyl sales week in the U.S. since 1991 after just three days, Billboard reported Tuesday—though that record comes decades after vinyl was replaced as a major way to release music.
Key Facts
From Friday to Sunday, Harry’s House sold over 146,000 copies on vinyl, more copies than any other album has in a week since data began being tracked in 1991.
Harry’s House broke the record previously set by Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version), which sold 114,0000 vinyl copies from Nov. 12 to Nov. 18 of last year.
The tracking week ends Thursday, and the total number of records sold will be announced Sunday.
Tangent
This isn’t the first time Styles has scored vinyl sales. His 2019 album Fine Line was the No. 1 vinyl album sold in 2020 and the No. 4 one sold in 2021.
Big Number
$1 billion. That’s how much money vinyl sales achieved in 2021, the most since 1986, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
Key Background
Harry’s House is Styles’ third solo studio album. The first single from the work, “As It Was,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, which tracks the success of songs based on streaming, sales and radio airplay, where it spent a three weeks before maintaining at No. 2 “As It Was” became the most-streamed song in 24-hours for a male artist on Spotify after it was released. Harry’s House received the most first-day streams of a pop album released this year on Apple Music. Songs from the album have consistently ranked in Spotify’s Daily Top Songs chart this week.
